Dr, Newman "has definitely decided not to seek re-election as Mayor 01 Wellington. Archdeacon Cole was a passenger to New Plymouth by the Rarawa yesterday morning. He intends remaining in the district for a few days.
Amongst the passengers bv the R;irawa last night were Captain MeikK hani) „Vir. and Mrs. Fagan and Mcs-srs Isaac Bayly and P. A. fladley. Mr. J. W. Henderson, aged (50, secretary of the Waikato Bacon Company, and for a nunrbcr of Tears manager ot various Branches ot ffie Bank of New Zealand, fell dead off his Ucycle on Frankton road on Saturday. Heart disease was the cause of death.
A wire from Hawera announces the death of Mr. Richard E. Meßae, aged 04, Deceased was bom at Nelson, and resided in South Taranaki for thirty-five years'. He was a well-known judge of horses at shows, and formerly owned a number of racehorses and thoroughbred stallions.
A London cable message states that Admiral Sir Arthur Fanshawe has been appointed an Admiral of the Fleet, vice Admiral Sir Edward Seymour, who is retiring. Vice-Admiral Sir Edmund Poe has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, and ViceAdmiral Sir Ass'heton Curzon-Howe Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth.
