THE MORESBY GROUNDING. By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Brisbane, February 24. The missing boat of the island steamer Moresby, vvhicli west aground in Cook Passage, was picked up at Hawick Island. It had £7OOO worth of specie on board. The occupants of the other boats had a rough time In landing at the Lizard. The Boats were leaky, and had to lie baled out continuously. One boat went to pieces when being dragged ashore. Details show that the impact was severe. When the Moresby struck the passengers were thrown out of their bunks. gale at Norfolk island., Norfolk Island, February 24. A strong gale from the eastward has lieen raging during the last two days. The glass is exceptionally low.
BAMOAX DISCONTENT. Sydnev. February 24. The residents of Samoa arc petitioning the Reichstag for autonomy. The petitioners state that the hope was cherished ten years ago that a more peaceful and prosperous period of development would set in. and that it was not realised. The measures taken by the Oennan administration were calculated to harden the lot of the settlers and hold back the progress of the colony. The present position of the taxpayer* is described as disgraceful, and it is said that tlie increase of taxation and the increase of officials are not justified by the relative increase of population.
