NEW PLYMOUTH LIEDERTAFEL

ANNUAL MOOTING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Liedertafel was held in the prac-tice-room last night, when his Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Tisch), who is president of the society, presided over a large attendance of members. •/ The president congratulated the society on the way they gave their initial concert, which was such a great sue cess. He stated that such a society was'needed "in New Plymouth, »nd had 3io doubt that it had come to stay. He paid a compliment to the energy dis- I played by the conductor. The balance-sheet submitted by the j hon. treasurer, Mr. J. B. Jack, showed J a credit balance of £l4 10s sd. j The hon. secretary, Mr. Ernest Clarke, presented the report, and stated that the society, which was started with a membership of twenty, would begin the new year with about fifty active members, 'an indication that New Plymouth was not behind the larger centres as regards the musical abilities of the male portion of the town. The practices' during the t'erm had been well attended, the average attendance being twentythree. The following oll'iec-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patrons, Mr. H. Okey, M.P., and Dr. H. B. Leatham; president, his Worship the Mayor (Mr. G Tisch); vice-presidents. Rev. J. G. Chapman, Dr. E. F. Fookes, Dr. G. Home, Messrs. H. Weston, N. K. McDianmd, Newton King, J. H. Quilliam, J. B. Roy, and E. W. Gamer; conductor, Mr. C. H.' Atiderson; hon. secretary, Mr. E. Clarke; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. B. Jack; committee Messrs. T. O. Schnackenberg, M. Rucld, G. F. Brodie, W. E. M. Guy, and H W Jennings; lion, librarian, Mr. S. L Mark; hon. auditor, Mr. W. P. Crawford; hon. accompanist, Mr. G, Metcalfe. The committee will go into the matter of the revision of the rules and report at a later meeting. The practices will begin on Tuesday next and a concert will probably be held'at an early date.
