Received February 22, 12.5 a.m. Melbourne, February 21. The steamer Courtfield, which arrived on Saturday with a cargo of English coal, grounded in the south channel and is still hard and fast. SYDNEY'S POPULATION FIGURES. Sydney, February 21. The population of Sydney and suburbs at the end of last year was 005,900, an increase of 13,800 on the previous year. The marriages increased by 393, and the births totalled 15,4(31, 'the highest on record. The illegitimates numbered 10 per cent. The deaths numbered 10.2G per thousand of population, the lowest rate on record.
