RAILWAY MEN'S CONFERENCE
By Telegraph.—Press Association Wellington, Thursday. I At to-day's sitting of the conference ' of delegates of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants an important letter from the Minister of Railways' was considered. The Minister asked that the question of railway men of the second division coming under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act 'be put before the conference. He added that if the men decided to come under the Act, railwaymen would be on exactly the same footing as the ordinary public in regard to railway fares, and WQukl wy the same rates. Members of the conference expressed the opinion that the letter was sent by Hie Minister at a very opportune time, from his point of view. It was proposed that the conference "does not feel justified in o.pressing an opinion on such an important proposal without first taking an expression of opinion from the members of the Society." Ultimately it was decided that consideration of the letter be deferred.
