AMUSEMENTS.

" DASH FOR THE POLE." The weather conditions were ail in favor of the open-air picture entertainment in the Recreation Sports Ground la*t night, and there was a ver_\- fair -attendance. The pictures were projected on to an exceptionally large screen, and were very brilliants- illuminated, the company having a very fine electric plant of its own. The central attraction of the entertainment was Lieutenant Sir Ernest Shackleton's trip to the -South Pole. This was really a remarkable series of pictures, an entertainment and an education moulded into one. The panorama of Mount Erebus, i!-./.-zling whiteness everywhere; exercising the "flighty little ponies on the ice; t>c study of penguin life; eruption of Alt. Erebus: seal life; penguin-hunting; were all most interesting pictures, cr portions of the huge continuous picture. A good idea was gained of the sledging difficulties, and the effect of the journey upon the intrepid explorers; all this contrasting vividly with those photographs showing tfle return once more to civilisation. No one should miss this entertainment. To play out time the management screens a verv fine collection of general films, whwh portion of the programme will be changed for to-night's performance, it is the Antarctic series, however, that is the great feature of the evening, xnd "New Plymouth people are really fortunate in having this opportunity of seeing them. The Garrison Rand played throughout the programme la-st nigtit, and has been engaged for to-night's performance. The band will march, playing, from the town centre to the grounds. HEWITT'S PICTURES.
