THE MINERS' STRIKE.
CASE BEFORE THE WAGES BOARD THE EMPLOYEES' DEMANDS. By Cable—Press Association.— Copyright Sydney, February 17. The main claims submitted to the Wages Board on behalf of the Collrery Employees' Federation are that the selling price of <-ea! shall regulate the wages in all the seams in the Newcastle and Maitland districts. Thus', when the selling price is !>s the hewing rate will be 3s° 10d. With every shilling rise in the price there will be an advance of fourpence in the hewing rate. The el.inis also involve proportionate advances for tops, bottoms, and yardage rates. That it will be optional for the miners to do shift work. That the minimum standard height of a seam be five feet. That a penny per ton per inch be paid for everything an inch below that in addition to hewing. That night-shift men he paid sixpence a ton in addition to ordinary hewing. That only one shift shall be worked for the purpose of drawing coal in 24 hours. That eight hours from bank to bank constitute a working day for all employees. That all coal failing to -pass through a three-quarter inch mesh be paid for as round coal. The claims also demand extra pay in wet places and a charge in regard to filling dirt. ANOTHER BALLOT. - Received February 18, 12.30 am. Sydney, February 17. The Newcastle delegates on the Board lave decided to take a ballot on the question of resuming work.
