SHACKLETON'S DASH FOR THE ;l| POLE. ; - To-night, at the Recreation Ground, , local residents will have an opportunity . of witnessing the only film of Lieutenant , Shackleton's Dash for the Pole, the pic- [ tures of which have been so successful in Wellington and Christchurch. These pictures will be shown for two nights, per medium of the cinematograph. The films are so steady and clear that in many cases the members "of the expedition are easily recognised. The artist has not altogether forgbtten the humor- j ous side of affairs. Nothing brings home "to the spectator the sense of real- | ity so deeply as the moving picture film, j even in the simple studies of. scenery; lit furnishes something intangible that a single photo has not—but a good photo has—an atmosphere of truth. It must have been an inspiration of genius for Lieutenant Shackleton to include . the cinematograph as part of his outfit j of Polar exploration. Included in the company's many gems are scenic pic- ■ tures of the very latest films depicting ' winter sports "on the roof of Aus- . tralia " at Mount Kosciusko, also many ; dramatic subjects of exceptional interest. There is little doubt that large • audiences will greet this enterprise . here. The company, which carries a J most up-to-date engine and dynamo, l will, it is said, give the finest picture ' entertainment ever given in New Plymouth. Price of admission Is. The I entertainment, will ne given at St j St. John's Hall Waitara, on Saturday night. ;,;ji!1II!
