LABOR'S CAMPAIGN OPENED. A LAND POLICY. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, February 16. Mr. Hughes opened the Labor Party's campaign with a big meeting. H e declared that Mr. Deakin (Federal Premier) was trying to cloud the issues and that the real issue was land taxation. The Labor Party, he said, was trying to burst up the big estates to make land available for the people. Mr. Hughes also replied to Mr. Deakin's criticisms of the Labor Party. He stated that the mineral product last year was valued at £7,627,500, a decrease of £952,100, compared with the previous year. This was largely due to the labor troubles affecting the output. The coal, silver, lead and copper mines showed decreases. The values were: Gold £25,637, silver and lead £507,253, copper £54,051, and coal and coke £731.497. Zinc and concentrates showeo an increase ol £440,397.
