£1,000,000 LOST AT SMITHFIELD. NELSON BROS.' BALANCE-SHEET. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received 16, 10.50 p.m. London, February 16 Nelson Bros.' balance-sheet shows a debit balance of £32,590. The sum of £50,000 was transferred from the reserve to cover loss on the sale of frozen meat and to pay a dividend of four per cent, on ordinary shares. Mr. Montagu Nelson, presiding at the meeting, said he had been informed, and he believed it to be true, that a million sterling had been lost at Smithfield during the late depression.
