FIREWORKS DISPLAY. BECEE ATIOX GROUNDS-TO-XIGHT. There should be absolutely no need to remind local people that there will be A grand fireworks display in the Recreation Grounds to-night. Visitors will please accept this intimation. The Board which controls the grounds has arranged the display, and will use, a large quantity of the very finest English fireworks of all kinds. The grounds are tt he illuminated with Chinese lanterns, special attetnion being paid to the surroundings of the lake, which will form the central figure in the display. The Garrison Band will be in attendance, and refreshments will be obtainable. The proceeds are in aid of the funds of the Recreation Grounds Board. SHACKLETOX'S DASH JOE THE POLE PICTURES. ' The elaborate word pictures of the now famous historical expedition :>f Lieutenent Sir Ernest Shackleton and hie brave comrades, cannot be as jtraphic as the record which has been taken by the camera and transferred to the cinematograph. This record will be placed before the public of New Plymouth on Thursday and Friday nights. February 17th and 18th, in the Recreation Grounws, so intending patrons can look I forward with pleasure to two pleasant j and interesting evenings. The expedition series are most complete; in fact, the departure from Lyttelton is something never to be forgotten. Many wellknown faces are easily recognisable. Then the trip down the harbor and right on then till the return home of the party. The pictures ar c not without humorous moments. Penguins, 'seals and dogs are to be seen cutting all kinds otf queer antics. In order to obtain absolutely the best results, the compnnv carry a huge electrical plant of their own.'
