Sir Frederick Borden, Leader of the Opposition, in the course of the navy debate, argued that Canada was doing more for naval defence than Australia and New Zealand. He said Sir Wilfrid Laurier's policy represented a permanent charge of 5s per capita. AUSTRALIA REPLIES. Received 14, 1.10 a.m. Melbourne, February 13. Referring to Mr. Borden's statement that Canada is doing more than Australia, Mr. Cook states thaF 5s per head was only ; '.out half as much us Australia proposed to spend on sea and land defence. Mr. Dcakin fails to see that Canada is doing more than Australia.
