VISIT OF H.M.S. PEGASUS
THE LOCAL ARKAXCIUMENTS. H.M.S. Pegasus is expected to arrive at tin- Breakwater about noon to-day. His Worship the Mayor ami the tomi cierk will pay their official visit at 1 .HO p.m.- Captain Mills, reprcsentinc: the INavy League and Col. Ellis, representi:i:>the Veterans' Association, will also vi<:t the ship to make arrangements for the (members of their respective boilies to inspect the ve-se!. Later the Comma ml. or of the Pegasus will pay his official visit to the Mayor, who has invited the borough councillors, the officials of me Navy League, heads of the different authorities in New Plymouth, and their wives to afternoon tea in the afterno.,!i to meet the Commander and officers of the warship. Afterwards the Commanier and officers will be taken for a dri'-e round the town, the tour including a visit to the petroleum wells. In the evening the Navy League will entertain the officers and the men will J;r the gue«ts of the local volunteers at a "smoker" in the Drill Hall.
On Tnesdav a monster seaside picnic will be held at the Breakwater, where, in addition to all the local schools, a number of country schools, inchidiiw clltham. will ii°id their annual outing. The Seaside Committee have chartered the Pitoitoi, from Waitara, as a tend r, ■and the local fishing fleet will also convey passengers to and from the warship at a small charge. The ship will be thrown open for inspection from 10 a.m. till o p.m., and should the Commander select, one of the inner anchorages, no one should by disanpoin-:-'1 through inability to get aboard. On Tuesday cricket. Asosciaiion football and rifle shooting matches betwc"n teams from the Pegasus and the local clubs and volunteers will take pla'e. and in the evening all the ship's company ashore will be pro-out at the electric light sport-- meeting in the liecreation Sports Cronnd. A number of amateur rnnninn- events and cycle ra:<s will be included in the programme, and events will also he included for 'he Pluej.iekcts. Prior to the sport*, a procession, including the fiarrison Rand.
