.MEMORIAL TO THE LATE MR. SEDDON.

IN ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL.

Two hundred persons were present at the unveiling of the memorial panel to ill'. Seddon in the crypt of St. Paul's, including ill's, Moriee (Mr. Seddon's daughter), the Mayor of St. Helens, Mr. T. Glover, member for St. Helens; Lord Strathcona, High Commissioner for Canada; Mr. J. McCall, Agent-General for Tasmania; the Countess of Ranfurly, Major Robinson, and many New Zealanders.

Prior to the unveiling the Duke of Argyll read Sir Joseph Ward's and Mrs. Seddon's cablegrams', and delivered an eloquent eulogy. The memorial, he said*, had been erected as a mark of affection for the man and of respect lor (the statesman. Hollowing SinGeorge Grey's brave advice, Mr. Seddon became the most trusted leader in all Australasia. He gave no uncertain voice when the call came to prove the union of the Empire, and New Zealand responded nobly, sending ten contingents to South Africa. Ilis spirit still guided New Zealand's councils. She is' foremost in the desire to be represented in our fleets. Now in the centre of the Empire he served we honour his memory and. gratefully record his services for King and country. We revere his example and deplore his loss.

Mr. Hall-Jones, on behalf of the people and the Government of New Zealand, committed the memorial t.o the Dean and Chapter's charge. Archdeacon Sinclair, in accepting the charge, said he added the treasure to our historical associations.
