After a short delay at the post Chase Mab got away first, with Beacon and Himitangi next in that order. Beacon came up and took command and there was little change until the straight was reached. Chase Mab challenged, and a neck-anrl-neck go resulted in the latter winning by a short half-length, with Beacon a length away. Time, 2min 2 2-ssec. .„,

Mt. Cook and Reumac got the best of the start, Playmate lying some lengths away and Golden Glow chasing the field. "Passing the stand the horses had bunched up, the foregoing order being maintained. Playmate "put in a claim here, and closing on the leaders assumed command. Mt. Cook falling back and Golden Glow lying third. A couple of furlongs from home Reumac spurted, and, coming tast, won by a couple of lengths, Golden Glow gaining third place from Mt. Cook by a head ualf-a-aozen lengths behind the leaders. From a good start, Taupo shot out and soon established a lead of about ten lengths, Clemency, Prophet and Maggie Paul lying next in the order nam*!d. Massing the stand the first time Maggie Paul moved up, but at the mile had not overhauled the leader by .than a couple of lengths. Prophet was lying third, about four lengths back. About three furlongs from home Prophet moved up very smartly and looked all over a winner, out'faltered r-t the aot hurtle. In the straight the orde r was Maggie Paul, Prophet and Taupo, Cochrane winning a good race oh the former hy about four lengths. Time, 2'min 48 3-'ssec. A good start was effected. Passing the stand the first time round, fSlenuiIrn made the running, with Uhlando, £andstream and Tiptoe elose up, and the remainder bunched about three lengths away. At the back of the course Uhlando took tlie Jead. Glennllin falling back. Three furlongs from home Tiptoe was on equal terms with Uhlando, with llendip and Sandstream forging through to the front. On entering the straight. Tiptoe had a slight advantage over Mendip and Uhlando. A fine struggle ensued between the first and

Te Puia here put in her claim, and passing Swimming Belt and Cyrene, made a fine effort to overhaul Lethean, who, however, won by a length rather comfortably. Time, lmin 43 4-osec.

A Sydney cable states that Downfall, who sustained a bruised forefoot before leaving New Zealand, had a portion of the affected part removed. He seems none the worse for the operation. Bobrikoff at present goes as if he. is sore.
