The German Social Democratic Party telegraphed fraternal greetings to the Newport Labor Conference and congratulations on__their success at the polls, despite the naval scare.
Mr. Keir Hardie, chairman, in his address"," said he did not pretend to ' e satisfied with the result of the elections. He complained that the Iri-.1l National League of Britain had ordeivd the Irish vote in three-cornered contests to he given to Liberals. It was unlik *)y that Home Rule would be secured wh'.le the heads of the Irish organisation bludgeoned down the Labor candidates. The Labor Party must maintain complete freedom of action in the House of Co nmons and the cor ;tituencies. The treatment mcteu to f he Labor candidates flurlng the election was not of a kind to predispose them towards undue friendly relationship with the Liberals. The talk about weakening the veto of the Lords was toying with democracy. He demanded the abolition of the Second Chamber.
