MONEY REPORT. Mr.' C. E. Major, mortgage agent, Hawera, reports: The tone of the money market during the past two months has much improved; it lias improved in a somewhat greater ratio than the market itself, the caus'e being the anticipation of moneys shortly to become available. There being no doubt of the money soon being here, there is full warrant for the buoyant tone pervading the financial atmosphere. At no time in the history of the Dominion from the date of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi to the present day have there been so many evidences of material wealth and prosperity. The New South Wales coalminers' strike is the only cloud upon the commercial and industrial horizon. 'Money that the timid Juul lately locked away awaiting developments is steadily ■finding its way into investments. Small advances are at present more easily negotiated than large ones, there being as yet few large amounts available. Evidences, however, go to indicate that large sums will be available as from next April. There is a fair amount of local money offering for investment at rates ranging from a half to one and a-lialf per cent, higher than the general market rates. South Taranaki land values, by reason of the continued good {prices for butter and cheese, are not. now so great a menace to lenders. 1) 'have money for investment at rates carrying from 4V a per cent, to 0 per cent., varying with the security offered and the amount required.
