At the .Police Court this mornhiit Margaret McAulill'e. against whom several previous convictions have been recorded, pleaded guilty to having liquor for sale In the Invcrcargill no-license district. Defendant was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Mona Thompson, for assisting the .previous accused in the commission n f: the offence, was also ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Roderick a brewer's carte.-, was charged with ass'siing the worn ui Mc-Auliffc by delivering beer consigned to fictitious persons who were supposed to lodge in the house. Defendant wi» lined .£ls. Lieon and Lindsay, who were found on the premises, were each fined ,C2. THE CONFIDENCE TRICK. [s£■■; —_ Wellington, Last Night. In the "Magistrate's Court to-day Phil Brady, alias McDonald, was sentenced to three- months' imprisonment for obtaining £2 from a local jeweller on wliom he had worked off a sporting edition of the confidence trick, representing himself as a jockey able to putt his unsuspecting victim on to some good thingt- at Christchurcii races last week.
