The Daily Mali's Capetown correspondent ireports that vieneral B|)tha, Mr. J. (.'. S;::".-'. :'.nd Dr. Jamieson are \villing to assist in the formation of a lion-party Government, but Mr. Merriman wishes to be detached from the Cape Bond leaders. Mr. Merriman, speaking at Worcester, after consultation with General Botha, who is at Capetown, advised the Progressives to get out of the little cockboat coalition idea, which emanated from Throgmorton Street. The Union Government would need all possible criticism. The South African party embraced national feeling in a broad way; it looked forward to managing its own affairs without interference. ' He added: "My idea of the Progressive is a man who is fond of borrowing and who wants to imitate Australia, who admires the limperial South African 'Association, which we loathe, and has hne eye on South Africa and the other one on the English Stock Exchange." Mr. M'eriTrnan deprecated the amalgamation of the Bond. Orangia and tile TTet Volk, but the three might constitute a united South African partv, which, he honed, would be the domin ating party of the future.
