BOY SCOUTS.
< A PATROL FORMED IN NEW PLYMOUTH. A meeting, convened by Major SanJford, was held on Tuesday night at Vogeltown to consider the question of forming a patrol of boy scouts. After some discussion it was decided to form a patrol consisting of boys who have left school, thus the movement will not interfere in any way with the school cadets. Two gentlemen have volunteered their services as scout masters. Thursday evening was chosen for practice night, and work will be commenced at once. Correspondence was received from the Hawera Patrol*, and the meeting was adjourned until this (Thursday)' evening. Boys joining the patrols will he dismissed not later than 8.30 p.m., so as to enable them to rea -h home by 9 p.m. A very successful meeting of the boy scouts was held the same evening in the Central School. About forty-fit'? sturdy, enthusiastic lads attended, and had a thoroughly enjoyable time, bandaging one another and learning the elements of signalling. The uniforms are expected this week, and the movement in New Plymouth will then be on a sound basis. The boys are looking forward to having some real good nig.it parades.
