THE NEW FRENCH DUTIES

EFFECT ON NOTTINGHAM MANUFACTURES. By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright Received 2, 10.50 p.m. London, February 2. The Board of Trade invited the opinions of the Nottingham manufacturers through the Uiiamber of Commerce 'is to tlie probable effect of the new French duties on hemp and cotton yarns. The Chamber replied that as the duty had already been levied, and its prohibitiveness had completely killed the export trade, it mattered little whether the burden was increased. The Board's attention was called to the fact that French yarns were allowed to enter and were already selling in large quantities to the detriment of Home trailers.
