THE COURTS.
A LICENSING POINT. By Telegraph—Press' Association. Invercargill, L.ist Night. Rose Toff, a former licensee of the Carriers' Arms Hotel (frequently raided for sly-grog). who some time ago was ordered to quit the district, was charged to-day with having brought two bottles of w'h*sky from Christchureli into Invercargill, a no-license district, without notifying the vendor of the destination. The purchase of the whisky was admitted, but the defence raised the point that intention of actually bringing the whisky as far as Invercargill had nat been proved, and it was contended that the intention of the Act was to prevent the bringing in of liquor for sly-gng purposes rather than to insist upon piuchasere 'advertising the fact that they came from a "dry" district. The Magistrate reserved his decision.
