George Drcwitt, aged 47, formerly a permanent way railway ganger for' !7 years, and now a fanner, was found by his children hanging dead from a limb of a tree near his house at Kaurihohoiv. Christcihurch, Last Night. . Early this afternoon the body of a child was picked out of the river Avon in the tipper reaches near Wairarapa Terrace. The child's body was first noticed by a man named Bennett, who told another man named Larraman of what he had seen. Larraman brought the 'body to the shore with a stick, and lifted it out of the water to the riverbank. The bodv was quite naked, and had evidently been in the water for some time, for in addition to being dis colored.and somewhat decomposed the richt fool was missing, bavin? presumably been -bitten off by eels.
