News has been received from Fiji of the death of .Mr. David Wilkinson, for many years chief interpreter and Native Commissioner, and latterlv Commissioner of Native Lands, lie was ouo ai the pioneers of the colony, having reside 1 in Fiji for nearly fifty years. The deceased gentleman leaves a widow and four daughters, the eldest of whom married Captain Robert Cocks, father of Lady Macgregor.

Dr. Alfred Agassi/ died at Sydney recently, at the age of seventy years. He was a native of Devonshire, and the sixth son of the late Lewis Agassiz, ot Bradfield, Essex, lie took his M.R.C.S. (Eng.) degree in lS(il), and while on a trip to Melbourne was induced by Colonel Pitt to join the forces being raised to fight the .Maoris. On arrival ill Auckland he was appointed by Sir George Grey assistant surgeon of the 70th Regiment, and took part in many liattles of the campaign. On one oeeasion he was captured by the rebel .Maoris, but a friendly chief, to whom lie had acted as medical adviser, rescued liim and took him out of danger. At the dose o? the war Dr. Agassiz held several civil appointments under, the New Zealand Government, and then went to New South Wales. For a time lie was medical superintendent of Bay View Hospital, Cook's river, and afterwards practised at Cootamundra. Finding his health impaired, Dr. Agassiz returned to Sydney, and started practice, but he suffered so much that he made several trips' to England and the Continent. The last trip he made alone, returning to Sydney about three months ago. He was then in a low condition, and never rallied, dying on the Gtli inst.
