At the Magistrates Court yesterday. a young man named Eberhardt Ferdinand Renner was committed for trial on a charge of setting lire to a house at Wadestown. on the night of December 28th last. POLO. Wellington, Last Night. At the general meeting to-day of the New Zealand Polo Association, it was decided that the annual tournament to be held at Christchureh shall commence on Saturday, March 12th. Entries close on February 6th. It is expected ten teams will compete for the Savile Cup. VISITING CHURCHMEN.
Dunedin, Last Night. - Commissioner head of the Salvation Army in Australia, and Mrs. Hay, arrived in Dunedin to-day, and were, accorded a civic reception. The Rev. H. S. Woolcomhe, travelling representative ot the Church of England Men's Society, also received a sivic welcome. He will commence his mission in New Zealand here on Sunday, making a special feature of addresses to men, and will afterwards visit the rest of the dominion.
