TARANAKI LAND BOARD

The Land Board met on Tuesday. J'roMtut: Messrs. F. Simpson (Commissioner of Crown Lands) in the chair, JHeslop, J. Rattenbury, and Connett. LAND APPLIED FOE. Applications received for land since last meeting were approved: —Sections 93 and 94, block 4. 0 acres, Paritutu, D. R. Cooper; sections 22 and 23, block !), Mimi, 73C acres 11) perches, W. A. Davis. LAND BALLOT. A ballot was held at 11 a.m. amongst the applicants for section 13, block 14, Opaku, and G. W. Tayler drew the first marble. —Resolved, that the valuation for improvements having been paid, the; application be approved. TRANSFERS. The Commissioner reported that tho following transfers had been approved by the Minister:—T. Hastie to T. Lowes', sections 11 and 12, block 13, Mahoe; 0. Pedersen to 0. Pedersen and D. E. D. Revell, section 11, block 12, Upper Waitara; G. N. Christian to E. C. and W. H. Kent, section 1, block VI, and sections 2 and 3, block XVI, Waro; A. Fletcher to G. R., L. W., and C. G. Terry, section 4, block 8, Aria; C. F. and F. W. C. Bredenbeck to F W. C. Bredenbeck, section 3, block 3, Aria; J. R. Dougherty to A. M. Henderson, section 24, block 16, and section 25, block 16, Huiroa; R. Kent to R. and G. R. Kent, sections 5 and 9, Waro; C. Skitrop to C. Skitrop and G. Jensen, section 7, 'block XI, Upper Waitara; T. Hastie to T. Lowes, sections 9, 10, 12 and 14, block I, Taurakawa; T. Brash to J. K. Collett, section 16, block I, Egmont; G. C. Cooper to S. Metcalf, section 9, block XI, Ngatimaru.

NON-COMPLIANCE. The Board l considered the schedule of selectors who had not complied with the conditions of improvement, and decided as follows: H. C. Roadley, section 9, block 1, Pouatu, section forfeited; E. T. and L. H. James', section 4, block 5, Mahoe, to be notified that conditions must be complied with; Snow and ©Jsen, section p, block 7j Airia, 1 six months' extension granted to bring improvements up to date. E. Tolme, Crown land ranger, reported having resumed possession of section 8, block 11, Totoro.—The land will be re-offered under part 3 of the Land Act. NON-RESIDENCE. E. Tolme, Crown lands ranger, reported that the following selectors were not residing on their holdings' in a bonafide manner:—C. Smith, section 15, block 2, Aria.—The section will be declared forfeited. In the case of F. A. O'Brien, section 13, block 3, Ohura, Mr. J. B. Roy waited on the Board and explained Mr. O'Brien's reasons for not residing continuously on the land. After considering the evidence of settlers and 'others the Board resolved' that Mr. O'Brien must make the land his place of abode after his daily work. GENERAL. ■The.-"Board considered the cas'e of J. •M. Maione, to whom had been allotted section 4, block 1, Tapgitu, a*d resolved that his interest be declared forfeited.

J. T. Barkla applied for the freehold of section 6, block 13, Omona, o.r.p.— Approved. The following improved farm settlers applied' for their leases: —J. T. Hutcflinson, section 6, block 9, Totoro; B. Dwyer, section 4, block 2, Heap; R. Weinberg, section 1, flblock 3, Ohura. — The leases will be issued accordingly.

A letter was received from W. A. Coombridge, stating that he had started work on section 22, block 12, Mapara, granted him in exchange for section 1, block 3, Totoro. The following local bodies submitted proposals for expenditure of thirds:— Motoroa Road Board, i,i! l.'s; Wairoa Road Board, £42 2s Id; Cli;> • Council, £4Ol 7s 6d.—Approved subject to the ranger's report. G. Innes, section 3. block 4, Upper Waitara, wrote notifying the improvements done on his section.—To be verified by the ranker. Mr. T. S. Weston waited on the Board with regard to an application by Messrs. Kent and Sons for a remission of rent on section 5, block 9. Waro, and section 1, 2 and 3, blck 6, Waro, which had been conceded under section 127 of the Land Act, 1908, but which became payable upon the transfer of the land to them. —Resolved that the former decision be adhered to.

A plan of deviations of Ahoroa Road fTsections 1 and 4, block 8, and section 10, block 12, Opaku, was laid on the table. —Resolved that the area of closed road be offered to the adjoining owner. ■H. T. Twiss, Crown Lands' Ranger, reported on section 2, block 5, Pouatu.—■ Adopted, and the land will be offered for selection. The Board could' not entertain the application of C. Joyce for lease of land , between his section 10, block Ohura, j and the Ohura Road. A. Ilickson applied for permisison to sub-let section 3, block 9, Taurakawa, provided a suitable tenant could be found. —To be dealt with when applied for in a formal manner. , J. Pedersen, section 7, block 3, Upper Waitara. wrote complaining that tho price of his section was too high, and asking for three or four years' exemption from rent—Resolved that the Board cannot reduce the rent or make any concession thereon, and as he appears to be unable to finance the land, the Board' suggests that he should surrender it. 11. Hudson wrote explaining why he had not accepted section 14, block 1, Tangitu. before the time allowed had expired—Resolved that he be allowed to retain the section. The Commissioner reported that A. McPhee, section ~>, block 12 Aria, had not paid any rent on the section.— Consideration deferred. 11. T. Twiss, Crown lands ranger, reported on section 2, block 7, Mimi.— The report was adopted, and the land will be re-offered under part 3 of the Land Act, weighted with valuation for improvements. The Resident Road Engineer submitted an agreement for a severed portion of section 8, block 14, Waro, to be added to section s_, on account of a deviation of the Okau Road.—The title will be amended accordingly.
