CHRISTMAS BUSINESS.
POST AND TELEGRAPHS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The official return of the Christmas postal and telegraphic business shows that on the mail side last year's figures have been generally exceeded, but in the department of telegraphs the two years are about on a parity. The appended figures show the postal activity for the period from 17Mi to 24th December, and telegraphic from 21st to 24th December:—Stamps sold in 1908, £0293; 1908, £BO2I. Bags, etc., forwarded and received, 12,649; 1908, 12,251. Letters, etc., delivered by carriers, 450,567; 1908, 391,122. Telegrams forwarded, 21,672; 1908, 20,952. Telegrams received, 20,201 j 1908, 20,731. Telegrams transmitted, 27,090; 1908, 28,005.
