Mr. A. Wellcr, managing editor of the Taihapc Times, is on a brief visit to the town. Mr. Louis Bullot, an erstwhile resident of New Plymouth, and now of Sydney, is on a brief visit here. A Wellington telegram reports the death, at the age of 78, of Captain Richard Butt, a well-known coastal pilot.

Mrs. Jane Marshall, widow of the late Mr. James W. Marshall, an old resident of the district, died at New Plymouth yesterday, A Cliristchurdi wire states that .Mr. 11. D.
