OPENING OF THIS F.T.TTTAM BOYS' . \ . HOME. The non-arrival in Eltham yesterday of his Excellency the Governor proved a very great disappointment to the Salvation Army officers, though it was fully recognised that the circumstances which prevented him coming to Eltham were entirely beyond hie Excellency's control, k However, the ceremony of opening the Home was duly proceeded with, the Hon. W. Camcross being deputed the privilege of declaring the Home duly opened. There was a large assemblage. The ceremony was commenced by the singing of one .of the Army songs, followed by a prayer by Major Stone and an address by Colon?! Knight. The Mayor (Mr. Parrott) then gave a speech in which he eulogised the work of the Army and spoke specially concerning the opening of the Home. Brigadier Bray gave some interesting details concerning the aims and objects iof the Home, and was followed by En; Toy Jenkins, the donor of the Home to the Army, who concluded his interest-' big speech by presenting {he deeds of tie property to Colonel Knight. The ■Hon. W. Carncross then gave a short address in which he made kindly reference to the late Mrs. Jenkins, her desire to do some good and lasting work and the loyal manner in which her husband had carried out her desires by the erection of the beautiful Home they were that day opening. Afterwards the key was turned in the door and the Home „ declare 3 officially opened. Crowds of people then streamed through the building and surprise and delight were expressed by everyone at the completegets and comfort of the institution.— i&rgni. I J?
