Armt, world's champion 9culler, accepting the offer made by South African sportsmen of a prize of £IOOO for a match between Arnst and Barry, th'i English champion, to be rowed on the Zambesi river, at Victoria Falls, in August; the winner to take £750. There is much satisfaction in rowing circles at Arnst's acceptance. The promoters suggest that the race take place between the J Bth and 25th August.

Arnst asked for £250 for expense and n, «ide wajer of £SOO, besides the £IOOO prize. Mr. Guy Nickalls and Mr. ir. T. Blackstaffe (who were noted En». lish scullers) and Mr. Tom Sullivan (exNew Zealand sculler) decided that the side wager was unreasonable, but they offered £3OO for expenses. Arnet, when see by a Nelson Mail reporter at the time, said ho was somewhat disappointed at Barry not being prepared to make a side wager, but he was more than satisfied with the £3OO expenses offered. A message received Inter from the Wakapuaka cable station was as follows:"—"Arnst visited Cable Bay to-day. Speaking of the offer cabled this morning, he stated that be could not say whether hi would accept until he had consulted bi backers. Personally, he did not consider that the inducement offered was sufficient."
