A GAME OF CHANCE.

Roux Bonisson was fined £lO in the Police Court this' morning on a charge of keeping a common gaming house, where poker was played. Prior to 1907 poker was not considered an unlawful game, but under section 5 of the A-t of IHOS it was not necessary to prove that money was being played for. ' cotton 10 laid it down that cv—;,■ of chance was unlawful, and t!. ..lagistratc decided that ipo-kcr was a game • f chance.
A SHAREHOLDER'S BONUS. Hamilton, December 21. llcCandlish, a milker on shares, sued a farmer for £25, as his portion of a shareholder's bonus in the New Zealand Dairy Association. Mr. Loughnan, S.M., held that there was a difference between a bonus and a profit. Defendant was asked to pay one-third interest on the fund. He might in the end lose. Plaintiff was non-suited on the ground that a shareholder's bonus was not a profit.
ASSAULTING THE POLICE.
Stratford, December 21',
At tlic Police Court this morning fines totalling .t',lß were inflicted on a man named Thomas Rice, for assaulting the police and damaging property.
