.Mi'. J. J. Sullivan, who some montns ago retired from the local Deeds Office, and has since been resident in Nelson, lias been successful in passing iiis final law examination, qualifying as a solicitor.

Mr. Sydney Haywood, of Collvcr's Tours, Boston, America, passed through Wellington recently in charge of a party of five Americans, who are doing a tour round the world under his guidance. Mr Haywood, who was formerly in the cmploy of Messrs. Thos. Cook and Son, now acts as guide, philosopher and' friend for parties of tourists who leel indisposed to shoulder the burdens of travel themselves. The present tour is | costing the members of his party about £1,1)01) a head for the trip tiicy arc undertaking. They left for Sydney by the Ulimaroa last week.

Writes the London correspondent, ol the Dominion; —There is, we learn, no truth ill the rumor that Lord Hanfurly, who intends selling most of his property in Ireland this month, purposes making his permanent residence in New Zoa- / land, of which he wits formerly Governor. Lord Hanfurly is not selling his house, grounds, or park at Dungannon, but is giving each of his tenants the opportunity to buy his holding, and part of the balance will be offered for sale by auction. Lord Hanfurly has no intention of altering his present method of living between Ireland and London. A pleasant function took place at the Imperial Hotel last evening -vlien Mr. W. Johns was presented with a salad bowl and an electro-plate cream and sugar stand by the members of the I Warehousemen's Football and Cricket Clulw on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr. J. Sole, president of the club, made the presentation, and briclly referred to the energy displayed by Mr. Johns during the past iootball season

wh:n he had been instrumental in instituting the Saturday football competition. Mr. Johns was also ail ardent cricketer and was the prime mover in founding the present Warehousemen's Club.
