A bale fell from a stack in Hie New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's store at Lyttelton on Friday evening, and within a few minutes the firebclls were ringing wilillv and half the town was running about looking for the outbreak. The bale landed 'n some loose superphosphate on the floor of the store, and the dusty manure blew up in such a convincing manner that n youth who happened to sec it through a window rushed oil in a hurry to ring the bell.

It is also probable that Mr. Ziman's present visit to the Old Country will result in the further development of the oil-boring proposition at Kotuku, on the West Coast, which has been purchased by the company he represents.
