A POLICE RAID. By I'elegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. The police raided the premises of Mm. McAuiiHc, in Spcy street, and seized a quantity- of liquor, some of which was conceal® in a peculiar manner. COMMISSIONER ETXNIE—WILL NOT EESIUjN. Wellington, Last Night. In the House of -Representatives on Thursday, Mr. Aronld, M.P. for Dunedin North, said he was not concerned about the Commissioner of Police, for that ;was settled. He would resign. In reply to this, Mr, Dinnie this evening JT-ado the following statement to { a Yew Zealand Times' representative:—".Mr. Arnold's statement that I intend to resign my position is as devoid of trut'i as hi 6 previous allegation: that my s:n hail full pay for six months whilst on leave ot absence. The effect and object of such a statement can readily he understood. I have no intention wlmtjver of tendering my resignation." COLLEGE BOAT RACE. Wellington, Lust Night. POLICE OLD-AGE FUND. ' Wellington. Uist Night. This evening a meeting, attended 'iv somo Oil officers and constables statinv"d in Wellington, was held for the purpose of considering questions in regard the police old-age fund. Inspector Ellison presided. A resolution was passed that the meeting deemed it advisable •hat the Police Provident Fund shuu'-i ; e merged in the Public ncrvice Superannuation Fund upon conditions .sut forth in the amending Bill now before 'he House. The meeting also asked respectfully that tho Government slioi.H favorably consider the desirableness of ,'niibodying in the amending Act befovthe House a provision to allow members of the police force the option o> retiring at 55 years of age if thev so desired.
WEST OOAST GOLDI'WLDS. Hokitika, Last Night. Warden Aeheson to-day granted the applications of Messrs. Clifton - Borkin and Baucke for forty heads of water, each from Toaroha River, for gravitation water supply for the Riniii goldfield. IV works involved in each cas'e are set down to cost £75,000. Evidence was given that each application is separate and distinct.THE GEAR COMPANY. ellington, Lust Night. The executive of the Hawke's Bay Branch of the Liberal and Labor Federation passed and sent the following resolution to the Premier: "'fliat on account of the attitude of the prcs'ent Government being inimical to the interests of the people and the original platform of the .Liberal and Labor Federation, this'branch is now dissolved. That an Independent Liberal organisation be •formed with the latter object in view." The leasehold party in Parliament has been communicated with.
