PRESENTATION

TO MB. NEWTON KING. Mr. and Mrs. Newton King celebrated their silver wedding yesterday, the occasion being marked by the assembling of the staffs of the New Plymouth and Stratford offices, at the manager's (M'. i Stanley Shaw's) beautiful residence ai! Kcvon Street West, where a presents tiou of ;f handsome sterling silver tvaj was made to Mr. and Mrs. King. There w"efe sixty one employees present, only two being absent (and they were unavoidably), with fifteen ladies. Mr. Shaw made the presentation. In doing so, he referred to the growth of the buslnres during the past twenty-five years, the development of Taranaki during that period, Mr. King's associafioi with the affairs of the town and province, the good feeling that had always rttated between Mr. King and the memhers of his staffs, and Mr. King's constant considerateness. Mr. King feelingly thanked the staffs for the gift and particularly appreciated the spirit that prompted'it. He referred to his marriage 25 years ago, remarking that Mr. Shaw and most ot the Rtaff were lads then. His business lad increased and prospered, thanks to a hard-working and loyal staff. Tor he's a jolly good fellow" was then heartily sung. Another presentation was made by Mr Shaw on behalf of Mr. Chas. Sole, of Ononni. It consisted of a solid silver rose bowl, and bore the following inscription (which speaks for itself) : "Presented to Newton King, E6q., as a slight token of grateful appreciation for many acts of kindness received by Mr. 'Unas. Sole and family during 25 yews of business intercourse."

Mr. Shaw entertained the party to afternoon tea, after which they adjo.rne,l to the paddock adjoining, where a game of cricket was indulged in. Prior to leaving, Mr. Watson, on behalf of the staff, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Shaw for the hospitality extended to the staff, Mr. Shaw suitably acknowledging.
