A BRAVE LAD.
HONORED BY THE KING, By Cable —Press Association—Copyright London, December 14. King Edward received Tom Lewis, the hero of the accident at the excavation works in connection with the extension of the Alexandra dock at Newport (Mra.) and presented him with the Albert Medal.
Details of the landslip at the dock extension works) at Newport, Wales—which overwhelmed and killed 25 workmen—showed that one man who had been pinned down by falling timber and earth was released by means of amputating his legs. He did not survive the shock, however, and died soon afterwards. Tom Lewis, of Newport, a boy of fourteen, crawled into a small hole 30 feet below the surface, and worked in it head downwards for two hours, sawing a beam, with a view to releasing a workman who had been overwhelmed. | Without warning a fresh collapse of I earth occurred. The boy Lewie was hurriedly rescued, but the workman was killed.
