NOTABLE FLUCTUATIONS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Cop. rignt Received 15, 10 p.m. London, December 15. Halley's comet is exhibiting notable fluctuations of brightness. It was in the tenth magnitude in November and a fortnight later in the twelfth magnitude. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, LaVi Night. Mr. Tl. .T. Evnns, local oVcrver, reports that he located Hallcy'* comet at 11 o'clock last night by meant of a telescope with a 3-incli object glass. The visitor was then right ascension .Ih. 40m. nod declension Uh. 4flm., being thus on the northern horizon between Taurus ami Aries. The apparent ningnitml" of the nucleus was about fl'/i., and the comet was moving rapidly towards Aries.
