HOMING.

The New Plymouth East 'Flying Club have during the past week flown two very important races, the first event being from Masterton, a distance of 100 miles, on the south route. Thirty-two birds, representing eight lofts, competed, and the result was highly satisfactory, eclipsing all previous records from tlie point of liberation. Mr. J. Bradbury very kindly cared for and liberated them at 5.30 a.m., a north-west wind prevent ing a fast velocity being attained. T'ie following were the -placed birds:—!'. James' "Arcadia," 4 hours 38 min,, Ist; W. If. Boulton's -'Red Jacket," 4hrs. 38min. usee, 2nd; 11. J. Moverlevs Solo," 4hrs. 44min. 30sec. ; 3rd; A. Lovegrove's "Eggxell," 4hrs.'44min. SOsec, 4tli. The second event was from Russell, in the north, a distance of 304 miles, and although the birds experienced a hard time, having to battle against the strong westerly win.| which prevailed all day. the leading birds homed «-.•'!. The majority of members interested timed in on day of liberation, with the following result: \V. H. Boulton's "Waratali," lOhrs. 3min., Ist; C. R. Wright's •Halcyon," ]2hrs. 27min., 2nd; F. James' "Dominion," 12hrs. 4Sinm., 3rd. The next race will be held from Dunedni, a distance of (104 miles, arrangements having heen made by the club to have the birds well cared for whilst awaiting a favorable opportunity lor liberation.
