The Governor and Lady Plmiket will be leaving Palmerston North at the end of the month, and will for a time travel in various parts of the domini"::. On February 10th Her Excc'lc:: y, with her children, Miss Hill, and Captain Hardy, leave for England. His Excellency will then travel throughout New Zealand, making his headquarters at Wellington, until he leaves the dominion, which will probably be in the latter end of May or early in June.—Press wire.
Miss Addie Wright, daughter of Mr. J. J. Stagpoole, is spending a short hoi* day in New Plymouth.
Mr. J. G. Gilbcrd has resigned from the Napier Fire Brigade after thirtythree years' service. He was one of the original members and organisers of the brigade, and for many years its superintendent.
Midshipman Rouvier, son of the French rear-admiraL who was seht on a mission to Japan, lias become engaged to Mile. Isabelle Ito, daughter of Admiral Ito, who was the hero of the Yaltt battle.
i The dentil occurred in Christchurcli t-n Saturday of a very old resident, in the person of .Mr. T. A. JSiilljek", at the u..e of 73, after a fortnight's illness supervening upon a chill. The deceased gentleman, who was born i„ Belfast, Ireland, came out to New Zealand in 1802. landing at Nelson.
