ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
ACCIDENT TO A BUCKJUMPER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. One of the riders employed by "Jones'' Puckjumpers," named: Harry Grey, met With a serious accident last night at (Slethven. Grey, who is one of the professional riders employed -by Jones, was riding one of the worst bucking horses of the troupe, when the horse reared up find fell backwards on top of the unfortunate man, breaking his leg below the knee. He was taken to the Asbburtou hospital.
PTOMAINE POiSONING. Blenheim, Last Night. Yesterday Mrs. Scott Smith, wife of the local magistrate, her daughter and servant, partook ol tinned fruit for lunch, anil soon afterwards became ill. On a doctor being summoned he stated the three women were suffering from ptomaine poisoning, and the servant was removed to the hospital. The victims are better to-day, and will probably recover. . I THE PIPE STEM FATALIT*. HoKaika 4 Last Might. An inquest was held to-day touching tlie death of a man named Herbert Jolly, a Tasmania!), who succumbed to injuries sustained by a pipe, the stem* of which entered his right eye to a depth of 2% inches, and which was not extracted until twelve hours afterwards). The evidence went to show that the accident happened during a scuffle, and the remarkable tiling about the affair was that deceased was unaware that the portion of pipe hud entered his eye until extracted by the doctor. The jury returned a verdict that death resulted from an abscess on the brain caused by the pipe stem, there being not sufficient evidence to prove how it occurred.
