WAITARA BOROUGH COUNCIL

(From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Wait.ira Borough Council was held on Fridav evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Spurdle, Klcnuer, JSirdling, Rattcnbury, Tate, Brabant and Black. CORRESPONDENCE. The borough surveyor submitted h's first half-yearly report, which showed thai new buildings ami additions erected during the term were valued at £3/i:7, the total number being 35, and fees amounted to .-Cl2 ss. He also reported several persons had built without a permit. Mr. S. 11. Sampson applied for the position of poundkeeper and ranger, an 1 W. Jones for that of ranger. The foreman's report, showing f.'l2 yards metal having been laid for -,h,> month, was read. Mr. T. S. Drynan asked that the kerbmg and footpath opposite his shop be put in order. The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote acknowledging the receipt of the Council's letter re retrenchment of ihe district valuer. The "Harbor Hoard" wrote suggesting that the borough establish a powder magazine. _ Mr. Andrew asked the Council's sanction for the erection of another building at the power-house. Messrs Mcllsop, Elliot and Co. offered to (lout the borough loan of £IB,OOO at 4'/. ner cent. Mr. E. A. Gumbley offered his services in connection with overseeing the manufacture of the spiral pipes. The Sniral Steel Pipe Co. forwarded iletlci- in connection with the water supply. | ft was resolved that Mr. Andrews be I given permission to make the necessary additions to the power-house; that Mr. iJrynan's request for kerbing be left to the works eommitee; that the request from the Harbor Board for flic erection of a powder magazine Be left over dor further consideration.

The Mayor gave the following notice of motion:—That the necessary steps he taken to" raise aTurther loan 'of £2OOO for the purpose of extending the reticulation of the proposed scheme so as to ensure an efficient supply to ratepayers. Accounts amounting to £203 14s were passed for payment. Mr. ,T.
