UNITED SERVICE A v. FIRE BRIGADE.

This match was concluded on the Tukapa ground on Saturday afternoon, and ended in an easy three-point win for tile Service team by lit) runs. On the first day's play, He Service team was leading by 44 runs on the first innings, and at tlie call of time had lost one wicket fir 50. Continuing on Saturday, Lash and Bocock returned to the wickets. The laltcr"addcd a couple to his score, when Tic was dismissed by a good ball from Girling, lie had played a sound defensive game, and had holped Lash to carry the score from 4to 54. Mackay followed, and was' shaping well, when in a sharp run ho put his foot in rt at the hatting crease and sprained his ankle. He went on plnji::-. but had lost his confidence, and was soon bowled by Clarke.—3 for 73.—Dinniss had a shore stay, being bowled by n good length hall from Girling, Wood hit out vigorously, but with the score at 80 he succumbed to Clarke, who dismised Lawry and Mclssac with the two succeeding balls, thus performing the "hat trick." All this time Lash had been playing sound and careful cricket. Stitehbuiy followed Mclsaac, to see Lash succumb to a catch by Roch off Girling. The last two wickets fell soon afterwards, with the total at 97, of which, extras accounted for 14. Fire Brigade were minus the services of Danks (ill) and Mason (absent) in the field, and playjd substitutes. At four o'clock the Brigade commenced the second innings. The bowling of Wood and Dinniss again proved destructive. Clarke (13) being the only player to reach double figures. The whole team was disposed of for 31, and the match was over by five o'clock. A feature of the innings was the sensational catching by Dinniss. The Service fielding was rather ragged, and should be improved. The long grass interfered sadly with heavy scoring, especially in the ease of Lash, who played a great many clean carpet strokes.' His innings of 47 was marred by only one chance, at 37.
