AMUSEMENTS.

HEWITT'S PICTWHiS. "LA TOSCA." Every film shown at Hewitt's Pictures to-night will be a new one. Last week's programme has been finished with, and to-night we are to have some fresh gems and marvels of kinematography. i These pictures are not only new to New Plymouth, but to the Dominion, Mr. Hewitt's arrangements enabling him to lead the other picture shows in this respect to -no inconsiderable extent. 'The "star" film to-night is that world-re-nowned drama "La Tosca," the principal part being taken by no less a personage than Madame Sarah Bernhardt, one ot the greatest actresses who has ever trod the boards of any theatre in the world. Here is an opportunity of seeing real dramatic talent. Of course, the words I are absent, but the film of "La Tosca" I depicts so clearly the facial expressions of the actors a-nd actresses that tire I story is unmistakably told. It is said (to be one of the finest kinematographic (studies ever sent to Australasia, and is 11200 ft in length. Having a recollection of the very high standard attained by Mr. Hewitt in his opening week, there j*ems little need to draw attention to the remainder of a fine programme. Patrons tan confidently depend on spending an interesting and profitable evening.

CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERT. The attention of our readers is drawn to the programme of the New Plymouth Choral Society's concert which is to be given in St. Mary's Hall on Wednesday next. A cursory glance will show that Mr. Cornwall is endeavoring to submit a concert which should satisfy all musical tastes. The items set down include movements from Haydn's No. 2 Syraphonip for orchestra, and a descriptive selection, glees, part-songs for mixed voices, and humorous part-songs for male voices. Miss Florence Ward will aing Allitsen's stirring "A Song ot Thanksgiving," and Miss Leatham Cuthbest Wynne's beautiful "Through Love to Light." Mr. John Haslcm will sing a baritone solo, and Mr. H. Salt will play Wilhilmj's arrangement of Schubert's "Ave Maria." We hope that the imiisic-lovers of the town will give the Choral Society practical support by a liberal patronage, and at the same time enjoy a musical treat.
