The Press Cable Committee's report, presented to the Senate, states that there is only one source of supply for 'the Commonwealth and New Zealand, and in tint seiioe there is a comple.e monopoly The service given by the metropolitan papers is extensive, but much of it is uninteresting to Australian readers.
The committee urges that the position its undesirable and detrimental to public ' Interests, because it makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for new competing newspapers to obtain a coble htVics at reasonable rates, ami recommends the completion of the " All Bed" route, and the establishment of a Commonwealth news agency at the Hi<rh Commissioner's office in London and the dissemination of the news 'thus colloct>»«I among papers requiring it in Austral' 1; the establishment of a subsidised press cable association in Australia that will give free entrance to all newspapers with a uniform system of rates based on imputation and circulation; and the right to select news by country newspapers with a right to use cable messages from other sources, together wtta a copyright law for press messages.
