STRIKE OF STATE MINERS.
FROM THE STRIKERS' VIEW-POINT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Saturday. A working miner acquainted with the condition of affairs says: "The miners in the Westport district arc very indignant at the Government because it will not concede at Greymout'.i the same conditions' as prevail at Mokihinui and all over this district. At the same time 1 do not think there will be a' general strike. A general ballot would have to be taken, but one never knows how a ballot would go, as the miners in this district feel that any reduction in the tonnage rate at Grey would sooner or later affect the miners here."
The authority states that the annual conference of the Miners' federation asked Mr. R. McKcnzie to abolish trucking by hewers at the State mine, and he said it was a matter for the local management and the men to settle. Theniiner interviewed denied that trucking would cost £40(111; further, it would be impossible, with one man working at the face, for miners to earn 14s & day, lie. claims that the conditions and remuneration are better in the Westport district mines than at tho Grey State mines.
