ATHLETICS

EVENING SPORTS. The first of a series of running events, ito be run under the auspices of the New flymouth Amateur Athletic (Jlub, was held at the Recreation Grounds last Evening. Two events were got off, the 100 yards and the 440 yards. These proved most interesting, and as the club intend holding weekly sports, to which Ithe public wul be admitted free, it is expected there will be a good muster on Thursday evening. Messrs. J. H. Hempton and C!. Weston olficiated as judges. Mr. J. j£lliott had charge of-the starting operations, and Jlr. A. it. Standish recorded the time. Results:—

100 Yards.—Bert Clarke (10 yards) 1, 'A. V. Stohr (7 yards) 2. Splendid race, lime, 10 3-osec. Also started; M. Ward i(2&ds.), L. Stohr (7), G. A. Neiison (7), K. N. Mclsaacs (0), A. N. Morey (9). 440 Yards. —A, N. Morey (20yds.) 1, I&. V. Stohr (32yds.) 2, L. Stohr (32yds.) 3. Good racfe, llorey winning iairly easily. Time, 514-ssec. Also started: M. Ward (5), G. A. Neilson 35), R. .N. Mclsaacs (40). Next Thursday the events to be run off will he the 220 yards and half-mile. She sports will commence at 7 o'clock.
