| FOXTON CHAMPIONSHIPS. !By Telegraj h.—Presi Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The first heats of the Jlaiuiwaiu Sculling Handicap were decided to-day 011 the "Long Reach,'' abore the YVii'okino bridge, Manawatu river. The attendance was not large. Tim flower of the Australian and New Zealand sculling (World had been brought together by Hi'. 8. Messina, and as au additional attraction Mr. William Beach, the unbeaten champion of the world, was present as umpire. Added to these' attraction Were a perfect course, both for the competitors and onlookers, and fine weaThe management had splendid for handling a crowd of 2000 or 3000 people. There is every reason to believe that the final heats to be rowed to-day will attract a much larger gathering. Results:— 6 / First heat:—S. Kemp (24sec.) 1 T lawson (60sec.) 2, Mitchell (14sec.i i ifllso started: A. S. Green (30), W T %lvie (55). Won by a length and a inalf. Green gave up a mile from the {tost.

Second heat: A. G. Felton (24sec.) 1, K. Green («Bsec.) 2, W. Webb (scr.) 3. T. F. Green also started. Won bv a 'length and a-half, Webb two lengths frway.

Third heat—E. Lawson (20sec.) 1 ,« gagney (lOsee.) 2, J. Ellis (45sec.) 3. (Won by two lengths.
