Though robbed of interest, the final contest for the Davis C'up was largely attended. The weather was warm. McLaughlin won the first set from Wilding, who did not show form till tile third set. The American played himself to a finish in the first two sets, giving a display of beautiful tennis. Wildhg then asserted himself, and the rest was easy, the scores being 3—o, B—o, 6—2, and 6—3.
Long had Brookes going hard all through, 'but Brookes always had something left when the American tired. He started the first set with a couple «.f games lead, and kept going strong tiil four all. Then Brookes won the next two. In the next tet, the American won the first three games, and with ii 'e all th"e Victorian added the lWxt two. In the concluding set Long played v.p splendidly and the score stood six all before Brookes broke away. Scores: 6—4, 7 —5 and B—o.
