The cost of carrying the water around the borough, the distance being estimated at' about 6'/ 2 miles, will oe about another £4OOO. 11 the work is to be completed, the borough will have to get the sanction of the ratepayers to borrow an additional £2OOO, so as to make the scheme thoroughly complete. At a special meeting of the Council held recently the following resolution was passed: —That the offer of the Spiral Steel Pipe Company in connection with the water supply to lay without trenching and with trenching a 9-iucli main from the reservoir to the Waitara bridge, and a 0-inch from tlie bridge to the pound corner, for £10,139, be accepted. At the annual meeting of the Olifton County Council Air. J. W. Foreman was re-elected chairman. Mr. Porcninn, jn returning thanks, said His best endeavors would be used in the county's interest as a whole. He hoped that the Council would be united on questions affecting the good of the country, and that gonerally he would receive their support. Councillor O'Sullivun was unanimously re-elected the county representative on the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. Members of the Waitara, unitoi, Tikorangi, and Mokan Rowing Clubs are in active training for the forthcoming regatta on Ist January. The Hilton senior anil junior rigger crews are putting in sonic good work. The former crew is stroked by '.Mr. 11. Collier, ol N'ew Plymouth. It is the intention oi the Wanganui, Union, and Araiuoho Clubs' to be represented. The Regatta Committee lias included a number of water events in the programme, wlucii will cause plenty of amusement for the public. It is also intended to start the events later to suit the public this year, the tides being in every way suitable.
