The Christmas Handicap (open), of 120 sovs., run over a mile and a quarter j and the Hying Handicap (open). o[ 80 sovs., six furlongs, arc the chief events on the first day! The New Plymouth Handicap (open), of 100 sov-„ run over a mile, and the Farewell Handicap (open), of 70 sovs., six furlongs, are the • best stakes on the second day. Two hack hurdle handicaps, two hack welter handicaps, the Huatoki Plate (wciglit-for-age), five hack flat handicaps, and two hack scurries make up attractive cards. The local course is ■now in good racing order, anil, no doubt, owners' will make this year's nomination list a record one.

STRATFORD RACING ClA'B. following on the heels of the Taranakij Chrismas meeting is that of the Stratford li.C. whose fixture takes place on January 1 and 3, 1010. The fact that four days' racing takes place in Taranaki inside a week, and that eight open events—four at New Plymouth and a like number at Stratford—are offered owners, should attract a good number of outside competitors. The Stratford Cup (open), of 125 snv«., nine furlongs; Hying Handicap (open), of 100 sovs'., six furlongs; Dominion Handicap (open), of 100 sovs., one mile; and the Final Handicap (open), of 85 sovs.. six furlongs, are the principal races at Stratford. Entries for all events, with the exception of the Borough Stakes, Farmers' Plate, and Cardiff Stakes, close on Mondav, December 0, at 0 p.m. Details ] of the' meeting are advertised in anIfltber column.
